Information
Uniform Info
You need to purchase your uniform from Bayou Uniform (893-3700).
This year your uniform will cost $24.95 a set (top and bottom).
Let them know that you are a High School Student, and show them
your school ID and you will get our discount. Because this is
a color that they do not keep in stock, you will have to pay
ahead of time and they will call you when they come in. They
also sell stethoscopes the least expensive at $7.95 and it goes
up from there. You are encouraged to buy your own stethoscope,
but this is not mandatory. They sell shoes, socks, and other
odds and ends. Most of you will probably want to try on your
uniform to check for fit (the sizes run large at Bayou).

TB skin tests
You will be required to have 2 TB skin tests. If you have
had a TB skin test in the last year, bring me a copy of it so
that I can put it in your file. If possible this will be done
free of charge at the hospital.
CPR cards
I need a copy of your CPR card if you have already taken
it. I also will be taking the names of those students who still
need to take CPR. Since only a small amount of students need
to take CPR, I will do a head count and get those students together.
You MUST have CPR to go to clinicals. If you do not take CPR
with me, then you must get your card on your own. The American
Red Cross # is 892-4317 and St Tammany Parish Hospital 898-4000
or Lakeview Hsp 867-3800 and ask to speak to education to see
when the course is offered. To take with me will cost is roughly
$5.00 per student, and the cost varies at the other locations.
I will post the date in the classroom and online once it is set.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Artificial Nails
You may not show up to take care of patients if you have
taken any illegal drugs or are intoxicated. The Hospital reserves
the right to drug or alcohol screen any employee (or student)
who interacts with patients at any time you are in the hospital.
If your screen comes back positive, this information will be
passed back to the college and your high school. In addition
you will not be allowed to return to the hospital so you will
not be able to complete your clinical.
Artificial nails, overlays, and tips are not allowed at any time
during your clinical rotation. This will result in a "0"
for the day. All of these have been proven to dramatically increase
the chance of a hospital acquired infection (nosocomial infection)
and are prohibited.
Official State Paperwork and Ethics
Remember you must have 80 hours of clinical time, be signed
off on all your skills, and maintain at least a 70% to complete
this course. Please do not ask me to either alter your grade
or your hours, I will not. I am bound by my professional ethics
to stand by the integrity of the program. |
